Many of you have experienced Richard Bradbury’s exceptional teaching whether in universities, community settings or political conferences, so we have decided to offer a series of courses on topics that people have particularly enjoyed.

Starting with James Joyce's Ulysses on the 21st of September 2020, followed by Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway in early 2021.

Why are we offering these courses?

Education has come increasingly to mean simply grades and qualifications, almost exactly at the same time as as both have become less meaningful. At Riversmeet we believe that education is about learning, about the acquisition of wisdom of a sort that is not easily, or even possibly, quantified. Wisdom is best acquired for the pleasures and joys that it brings, simply for its own sake. Once acquired, it may become useful. It may, but it does not have to be...

That’s why Riversmeet is launching a project designed to guide interested people through some of the great works of literature. They are great works, but they are also undeniably difficult at times. If you are one of those readers Riversmeet can help!

So what will you get at the end of a Riversmeet course? A certificate that says that you have gained the pleasure, the joy and the satisfaction of reading one of the  greatest works of fiction from beginning to end. And that’s all it will say!

What is slow learning?

We are also committed to the concept of slow learning, which prioritises process over product and knowledge over information. You can read more about it in our blog.
